Editing audio with Rush is simple. The interface is easy to use and understand. In addition to being able to edit levels and correct audio – you can also find royalty free music within the app and use the auto ducking feature to combine voice and music.
Record Voice Over
Let’s begin our editing audio by recording a voice over. First, inside Preferences, we will set our audio input. Next, we will select the microphone next to the track we will record to. Finally we will click the red button to start recording. We will get a countdown cue. In addition to the countdown I like to pad the voice over on either side.
Audio editing basics
Now we can further edit our audio. To work with audio in Rush, select the audio panel on the right. You have three sets of controls – basic, advanced, and channels.
Basic will allow you to adjust the clip volume or mute the track
Advanced allows you to edit different types of audio in different ways. If you are unsure about a setting, simply hover over it.
Advanced also shows you the type of audio that Rush detected. This is helpful because you can then auto volume and auto duck music to dialog.
Advanced audio edits
If you have a voice clip selected, you can allow Rush to auto the volume. You can also balance the sound which may be helpful when some of the audio is lower than others. Additionally, you can reduce background noise or echos and perform audio enhancements. These all use adobe’s AI system to help you with edits.
Channels will show the mono or right and left audio channels. This can be helpful if you picked up static for example in one channel and need to edit.
Sources for music
While we are in audio, let’s talk about some sources for music or sound effects. I will mention the youtube library first. You can guarantee this music will be usable and not flagged for a copyright violation because Youtube has already cleared it. Simply filter sort and download what you like. You can also find on board audio with Rush or import one you downloaded.
Working with music
Once you have music and voice, you need to have those work together. The best way to do that is through the auto ducking feature. Begin by selecting your music. Rush will have already identified this as music. Then click the auto duck button.
